Hippodrome Circus - Great Yarmouth - July 2009

The Show: This years Hippodrome show is titled “Celebrate” to literally do just that – celebrate 30 years since Peter Jay took over the show. And what a show and celebration it is! After a bit of comedy and warm up it begins with a short film showing news coverage and bits of acts from over the years – a great build up.

This is followed by a great comedy troupe act on the swing – jumping into a huge slide, hard to describe, but great to see! Other acts included the excellent Brazilian troupe who did the most amazing springboard act with the best presentation I have ever seen! There was a great magic, Robert Foxhall on his Ariel straps act, brilliant juggling, excellent contortionist and lots of other various run in’s in the presentation.

Comedy came from “Comedian” Johnny Mac and Jack Jay (Peter Jay’s son). I did think this might be a real disappointment after the clowning of Danny Adams and Clive Webb and the term “Comedian” worried me! BUT it was the funniest team I have seen for a long time! Johnny Mac is sensational and you can’t help but laugh out loud as he winds up Jack Jay who works so well with him. In reality, it some of the best clowning I have seen for years!

Of course the water spectacle took place with excellent choices of music such as ELO’s ‘Mr Blue Sky’ and the acts worked well with the water too.

This years show certainly has something to celebrate and was one of if not the best show I have seen this year.

Housekeeping: No programme! I was gutted, especially celebrating the 30 years, what a lost opportunity. Recorded music with some live drumming.
