(I have tried to resist I promise!).

Tom, from someone who doesnt really care about lorries either, they not only look good in photos, they can help sell a show if they look good at the front. As a "fan" (rather than "artist") we care about the look of a show as well such as lorries, big tops, whatever else because it is part of the excitement for us for going to a show. As an "artist" maybe you do not know that lovely feeling of knowing you are about to turn a corner and know that you will see a Circus in its full glory, big top, lorries and all and the buzz you get knowing you are going to see something fantastic inside. This is a "fan thing" believe me!!!

As for "stars" as a "fan" (rather than an "artist") yes there are stars. Yasmin Smart, Norman Barrett, certain Chipperfields, Bobby Roberts, Charlie Caroli, Coco the clown, the list is endless. People we or I have admired as my stars as much as every kid around me growing up admired football stars (from a team too!) or pop stars. Of course from an "artist" point of view there are no stars because you do the same job and are involved in the team of the show. Even Circuses promoted "stars" on their posters with billings - Zippos even do it today promoting Norman or Charlie Caroli Jnr or the very popular David Konyott. Great yarmouth audiences love Danny Adams and Clive Webb and therefore very much put them on the posters if they are in the show as this well sell more tickets. Same with Robert Foxall.

I am not sure where this topic is going.
The CFA does have a list of 'Rules and Objectives'. They are not printed online and really there is no need to have them so. They are i believe sent to all new members. They certainly were when i joined the CFA over twenty years ago, and as they have been updated over the years, then i have recieved copies of the new Rules.
If you are a current member of the CFA, then i would guess that you would have a copy of the rules.
If you are not a member, i guess you have non.
You dont need qualifications to join. Its quite simple really.
If you are interesting in joining an organisation that supports circus, then you are able to join. Plain and as simple as that.
If you are a circus owner, artistes etc etc, then you can join too.
Could not be any simpler.

Just to note: it is clear that the Circus Friends (not to be confused with the CFA in other countries) are reluctant to print any rules that should be required to join the group. As a circus artiste I do think persons wishing to join should have some guidelines? This 'support' is rather Pick-and-Mix I am afraid. Circus artistes must abide by the strictest rules both in performance and touring with a circus company. Rather nice I suppose for 'circus friends' to feel free of obligations.
